Underlord vs Necrophos

How this matchup plays

Picking between these two often comes down to which side of the attrition war you'd rather be on. The matchup is a standoff between competing auras. Underlord's Atrophy Aura reduces Necrophos's damage output, making it harder for him to trade effectively. At the same time, Heartstopper Aura constantly chips away at Underlord's large health pool, making him vulnerable over time. Neither hero can easily burst the other down. Underlord can trap Necrophos with Pit of Malice and burn him with Firestorm, but Necrophos often has enough self-sustain from Death Pulse to simply walk out of it and heal up, creating a reset.

This dynamic continues into teamfights. The outcome often depends on which hero's team can better execute their plan. Underlord wants to group up, reduce the enemy's damage, and control an area. Necrophos thrives in drawn-out fights where he can sustain his allies and find a target for Reaper's Scythe. If Underlord's team has the initiation and burst to end fights quickly, Necrophos can feel ineffective. If fights get scrappy and extended, Necrophos will eventually find the low-health targets he needs to clean up, turning the tide regardless of Underlord's presence.
