Underlord vs Nyx Assassin

How this matchup plays

Losing your mana pool to a single spell is a constant problem for Underlord in this matchup. He relies on casting Firestorm and Pit of Malice multiple times to control teamfights, and Nyx Assassin's Mana Burn directly attacks his ability to do so. It chips away at his resources before a fight even begins, leaving the tanky hero unable to contribute effectively. A well-timed Spiked Carapace can also punish Underlord for using his own area-of-effect damage, potentially stunning him and disrupting his team's plan. This forces Underlord to be much more careful with his positioning and spell usage whenever Nyx is missing from the map.

Across the game, this means Underlord can't play as the aggressive front-line presence he often wants to be. A lurking Nyx Assassin can use Vendetta to find and weaken him before a push on a tower or a fight over an objective. Underlord's response is usually to stay closer to his supports or to itemize for mana sustain, which can sometimes slow down his ideal timing for durability items. While Underlord's Atrophy Aura is still a major factor in any brawl, the constant pressure from Nyx makes his job more difficult and can give Nyx's team the small opening they need.
