Underlord vs Outworld Destroyer

How this matchup plays

Thinking that Outworld Destroyer's pure damage automatically counters Underlord is a common trap. While Arcane Orb does chip away at any target, Underlord's massive health pool and the team-wide damage reduction from Atrophy Aura often let him stand his ground long enough to be a problem. Underlord isn't looking for a duel anyway; he wants to control teamfights with Pit of Malice and Firestorm. Similarly, Outworld Destroyer's main goal isn't wrestling with the frontliner. He's more interested in deleting Underlord's supports, and his Sanity's Eclipse is much more dangerous for them than it is for Underlord himself.

Success in this matchup depends on which hero's team better enables their game plan. Underlord wants to force messy, prolonged fights where his auras and spells get maximum value. A well-placed Fiend's Gate can start a fight on his terms or save his team from a bad one. In contrast, Outworld Destroyer excels in more controlled skirmishes where he can maintain distance, use Astral Imprisonment to dodge key spells, and systematically eliminate targets. Neither hero fundamentally shuts down the other's strategy, making the outcome highly dependent on execution.
