Underlord vs Ogre Magi

How this matchup plays

Laning against Underlord can feel frustrating for an Ogre Magi. The usual plan of wearing down an opponent with spells and right-clicks doesn't work well when Atrophy Aura is constantly reducing your damage output. Underlord is also naturally durable enough to survive Fireblast combos, while his own Firestorm is more of a wave-clearing tool than a serious threat to a high-health hero like Ogre. Getting caught in a Pit of Malice is annoying, but Ogre is often tanky enough to survive the root and simply walk away, making for a passive and uneventful lane.

This neutral dynamic continues into the mid and late game. Underlord’s primary function is to weaken an entire team’s physical damage, while one of Ogre Magi’s main jobs is to amplify his carry's damage with Bloodlust. These effects tend to wash each other out, leaving the cores to fight on more even footing. The better hero often comes down to the specific needs of the game. Underlord provides team-wide mobility and area denial, while Ogre offers single-target lockdown and buffs. Neither hero truly shuts down what the other wants to do.
