Underlord vs Slardar

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map's pace is what decides this matchup. Slardar looks to accelerate the game with pickoffs, relying on Corrosive Haze to melt even tanky heroes. Underlord does the opposite, slowing things down with Firestorm to push out lanes and using Atrophy Aura to reduce the physical damage of anyone who gets close. This creates a direct conflict between Slardar’s armor reduction and Underlord’s damage reduction. Pit of Malice is also a major problem for Slardar, as it can stop his charge and leave him vulnerable inside a Firestorm.

A successful game for Slardar involves constant pressure, finding isolated heroes, and forcing teamfights before Underlord can establish a defensive position. The Underlord player will want to avoid these early brawls, instead using his wave clear to defend towers and draw the game out. If Slardar can't build a lead, Underlord's area denial becomes overwhelming in late-game teamfights. If Slardar gets rolling early, he can keep bursting key targets with his ultimate, preventing Underlord from ever feeling safe enough to split-push or farm.
