Underlord vs Slark

How this matchup plays

Laning against Underlord as Slark can feel like a stalemate. Firestorm pushes the wave and makes it dangerous to stand still for last hits, but it doesn't have the burst to kill you. The key interaction revolves around Pit of Malice. A well-timed Dark Pact can purge the root, letting Slark escape the pit and the follow-up damage. However, if Dark Pact is on cooldown or used incorrectly, Slark is a sitting duck. This trade of cooldowns defines their direct confrontations, with neither hero having a consistent upper hand.

As the game progresses, both heroes prefer to avoid dealing with each other directly. Slark wants to find isolated targets to build Essence Shift stacks, and the incredibly durable Underlord is one of the worst possible targets on the map. Underlord, in turn, wants to group with his team and provide control with his spells and damage reduction from his aura. He can't easily lock down and kill a Slark, but his presence makes it much harder for Slark to jump on the back line and succeed. The winner is often decided by which team better executes their own game plan.
