Batrider vs Pudge

How this matchup plays

Catching a key target with Flaming Lasso often goes wrong against a Pudge. A well-timed Meat Hook can pull the lassoed ally to safety, completely nullifying Batrider's primary goal. Pudge can even hook Batrider directly to break the channel and turn the fight around. On top of this, Pudge’s natural magic resistance from Flesh Heap makes him a frustratingly durable target for Batrider’s magical damage over time. He can frequently survive an initiation attempt that would kill most other heroes, then retaliate with his own spells once the Lasso ends.

This interaction forces Batrider to be much more careful with his initiations. He can't fly in recklessly; he needs to consider Pudge's position and whether Meat Hook is available. The best approach for Batrider is often to wait for Pudge to show elsewhere on the map, or to make Pudge himself the primary target. For the Pudge player, the game becomes about positioning defensively to act as a backline savior. The matchup hinges on which hero gets the jump, as Pudge is very vulnerable to being lassoed himself if caught out.
