How this matchup plays

Thinking Dawnbreaker can burst down Bristleback with her stuns and hammer swings is a common trap. It rarely plays out that cleanly because Bristleback's passive damage reduction from behind absorbs a huge portion of Starbreaker's physical damage. Even if Dawnbreaker lands a Solar Guardian to set up a gank, the stun is often not long enough to finish the job before he can turn and start firing back with Quill Spray. Her healing helps her team survive his damage output, but it doesn't give her a specific tool to kill him any faster than another core would.

The lane is often a farm-off until one side gets a decisive rotation or makes a big mistake. Later in the game, the dynamic is about map control versus siege. Dawnbreaker uses her global presence to force reactions and create fights away from Bristleback's team, while Bristleback wants to group up and methodically push down buildings. Neither hero directly stops the other from executing their game plan, so the outcome depends on which team better enables their hero to dictate the pace of the game.
