Bristleback vs Earthshaker

How this matchup plays

Choosing Earthshaker to deal with a Bristleback often comes down to Fissure. A perfectly placed wall can trap Bristleback facing the wrong way, letting your team bypass his passive damage reduction. Without that ideal setup, however, the rest of Earthshaker's kit feels underwhelming. His physical burst is heavily mitigated if Bristleback can turn his back, and Echo Slam doesn't do much bonus damage against a single target. This leaves Earthshaker with long stuns, but often not enough solo damage to secure a kill before Bristleback turns the fight around.

The game then becomes a test of positioning for both heroes. Earthshaker is constantly looking for an angle to land a clean Fissure that isolates or controls Bristleback for his team. Meanwhile, Bristleback can play more aggressively, knowing he can probably survive the initial combo. He wants to close the gap, soak the spells, and then run Earthshaker down with Goo and repeated Quill Sprays. Success for either side usually depends more on their team's follow-up than on a direct one-on-one confrontation.
