Bristleback vs Grimstroke

How this matchup plays

Getting hit with Phantom's Embrace can be a huge problem for Bristleback. The long silence stops him from spamming Quill Spray, which means he isn't dealing damage or building up Warpath stacks to stay fast. A stationary, silenced Bristleback is much easier for a team to handle. Soulbind can also punish teams that clump up around Bristleback for protection, duplicating single-target stuns across two heroes. On the other hand, Grimstroke is a fragile hero with no escape. If Bristleback manages to close the distance, Grimstroke dies very quickly. This creates a tense standoff where both heroes are a direct threat to what the other wants to do.

The matchup often comes down to positioning and support. In lane, Grimstroke’s harass can be oppressive, but Bristleback is naturally durable enough to survive it and wait for an opening. Later in teamfights, Grimstroke wants to stay far away, using his control spells to disable Bristleback from the safety of his backline. Bristleback’s goal is the opposite: he needs to survive the initial engagement and find a path to get on top of the enemy supports. The game often boils down to which hero’s team is better at enabling their plan, making this a very even fight.
