Bristleback vs Hoodwink

How this matchup plays

Thinking Hoodwink is an easy counter to Bristleback is a common mistake. While she can get a break to deal with his passive, it's not part of her base kit and requires specific item pickups. Without that break, Hoodwink's damage bounces right off him. Her Acorn Shot doesn't do much, and she's too fragile to stand and fight against a stream of Quill Sprays. A Bristleback who gets ahead early can run her down with little fear, building a lead before her counter-play even comes online. The matchup is less about a hard counter and more about a race for specific item timings.

It all comes down to who executes their game plan first. Bristleback wants to end the game or build an insurmountable lead before Hoodwink can farm an Aghanim's Shard or Scepter. He'll force fights and try to get on top of her. Hoodwink's goal is to survive the early aggression, use Bushwhack and her tree mobility to keep distance, and farm the items she needs to turn him into a target. If she gets them, she can enable her team to kill him, but if he gets to her first, she just pops.
