Bristleback vs Pudge

How this matchup plays

The map can feel either wide open or dangerously tight depending on who gets the jump. Bristleback wants to methodically farm and push lanes, building a lead that makes him unkillable, while Pudge seeks to disrupt that plan with pickoffs. This tension comes from their kits. Pudge's Meat Hook can be a death sentence, pulling Bristleback out of position and forcing him to face Pudge’s team, bypassing his passive damage reduction. Dismember then holds him there. However, if Bristleback survives that initial burst, the tables turn completely. He can chase down the slow-moving Pudge, stacking Quill Sprays as Rot eats away at Pudge's own health.

In practice, the success of a Pudge gank on Bristleback depends almost entirely on follow-up. A lone Pudge often can't finish the job and ends up becoming the one getting chased. But a hook into multiple heroes during Dismember's duration is one of the best ways to deal with an otherwise durable frontliner. Because of this, Bristleback has to be mindful of his positioning relative to Pudge's whole team, not Pudge himself. The Pudge player looks for opportunities to isolate Bristleback, while the Bristleback player tries to force fights where he can't be easily singled out.
