Picking Warlock against an enemy Bristleback creates a tough situation for your own team. Much of Warlock's spell damage comes from damage-over-time effects like Fatal Bonds and Shadow Word. These spells are meant to weaken an entire team, but against Bristleback, they constantly trigger his passive Quill Sprays. This means Warlock’s attempts to contribute damage can accidentally charge up the enemy frontliner, making it easier for Bristleback to overwhelm his allies with a steady barrage of quills. The very spells Warlock relies on can become a liability, forcing him to choose between using his kit and empowering his biggest problem.

In teamfights, this dynamic plays out clearly. While Warlock's Chaotic Offering provides a crucial stun to lock Bristleback down, the Golem's persistent burn damage continues to fuel the quill storm after the stun wears off. Bristleback is often durable enough to survive the initial burst and then turn the fight. Warlock’s best tool is Upheaval, which can slow Bristleback to a crawl and prevent him from reaching the back line. This requires Warlock to channel in a safe position, however, which isn't always possible when a fed Bristleback is running straight at you.
