Centaur Warrunner vs Pudge

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map feels like a tug-of-war in this matchup. Pudge excels at punishing heroes out of position with a well-aimed Meat Hook into Dismember. The problem is that Centaur Warrunner is one of the last heroes he wants to hook. Centaur's massive health pool means he can often survive Pudge's full combo and turn the fight with Hoof Stomp. Once on top of Pudge, Centaur's own damage combined with punishing Pudge's self-inflicted Rot damage creates a dangerous situation for the butcher. This creates a standoff where Pudge can’t easily start a fight with Centaur, and Centaur can't easily close the gap on Pudge.

The dynamic forces both heroes to play around their teams. Pudge will generally ignore Centaur and try to hook a more fragile support or core instead. This is where Stampede becomes crucial, as Centaur can use it to save a caught ally or to counter-initiate on Pudge's team. On the other hand, a successful Dismember on a key target before Stampede can be used is often enough lockdown for a kill. It’s a constant battle of positioning and reaction time, with neither hero having a decisive, built-in advantage over the other.
