Chaos Knight vs Earthshaker

How this matchup plays

Picking one of these heroes into the other sets up a tense waiting game. Earthshaker has one of the best theoretical answers to Chaos Knight's Phantasm in Echo Slam, which can instantly vaporize the entire illusion army. A well-placed Fissure can also trap the real Chaos Knight or peel for an ally he's trying to burst. However, this relies on Earthshaker surviving the initial assault. Chaos Knight excels at single-target deletion, and if he can Reality Rift onto a lone Earthshaker, a long Chaos Bolt stun is often enough to secure the kill before any spells can be cast.

Throughout the game, teamfights hinge on this dynamic. A successful Chaos Knight player will often avoid clumping up with his illusions or will try to find and eliminate Earthshaker before committing his ultimate. This forces the Earthshaker to play cautiously, waiting for that perfect moment when the illusions appear. The fight often comes down to who makes the first mistake: if Chaos Knight overcommits, Echo Slam punishes him, but if Earthshaker reveals his position too early, he gets picked off and his team is left with no answer to the illusions.
