Chaos Knight vs Techies

How this matchup plays

Pushing lanes against a Techies becomes a massive liability for Chaos Knight, bleeding him of gold and map presence. The core of the problem is how easily Techies deals with Phantasm illusions. Chaos Knight relies on his ultimate to multiply his damage and create chaos, but Techies' entire kit is built to punish clumped-up units. A few well-placed Proximity Mines or a combo involving Sticky Bomb will instantly vaporize the entire illusion army, turning CK's biggest teamfight contribution into a quick gold bounty for the enemy.

Throughout the game, this forces Chaos Knight to play passively. He can't split-push or farm aggressively because the threat of mines is always there, slowing his item progression. In fights, CK is forced to buy a Black King Bar and try to jump on Techies before he can set up, which is predictable and risky. Meanwhile, Techies can control entire sections of the map, making it impossible for Chaos Knight to initiate a favorable fight or secure objectives. He effectively turns CK's army against him by making it too dangerous to ever fully commit.
