Chaos Knight vs Warlock

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst a target with Phantasm is uncomfortable when Warlock is on the other team. His kit is well-equipped to punish heroes who create copies of themselves. Fatal Bonds is the main reason for this; it can link the real Chaos Knight to his illusions, meaning any area damage hitting the group gets focused back onto him. Warlock's Chaotic Offering also presents a problem, as the Golem's stun can break the initial charge and its burn damage helps melt the clumped-up illusions.

This dynamic means teamfights often hinge on timing and target priority. Chaos Knight’s job becomes finding and killing Warlock before he can cast his spells, or using a Black King Bar to render the bonds ineffective. For Warlock's team, the goal is to protect him long enough to get his ultimate and Fatal Bonds onto the Phantasm illusions. Because Chaos Knight can still kill Warlock very quickly if he gets a clean jump, the matchup leans only slightly in Warlock’s favor.
