Crystal Maiden vs Muerta

How this matchup plays

Picking Muerta into an enemy support often feels fine, but seeing a Crystal Maiden lock in should be a real warning. Muerta relies on Pierce the Veil to stay alive and output damage in fights, but going ethereal makes her take extra damage from spells. This lines up perfectly for Crystal Maiden, whose entire kit is magic-based. A single Frostbite on an ulted Muerta locks her in place while she melts to magic nukes, turning her biggest power spike into a liability. The lockdown also completely ruins her ability to kite with the ultimate active.

From the laning stage onward, this dynamic puts Muerta on the back foot. She can try to bully the lane, but any gank or rotation leaves her exposed to a simple root-and-slow combo. In mid-game teamfights, Muerta wants to activate her ultimate and become a primary damage dealer. In this matchup, however, she has to play around Crystal Maiden's positioning, often waiting for Frostbite to be used on someone else. Maiden, meanwhile, can comfortably play from the fog, knowing her basic spells are a direct counter to the enemy carry's ultimate.
