Crystal Maiden vs Primal Beast

How this matchup plays

Trying to build up a full-speed Onslaught only to be stopped in your tracks by a simple Frostbite is the core of this matchup. Primal Beast relies on momentum to get into a fight and start his combo, but Crystal Maiden has multiple tools to deny him that. A well-timed root will cancel his charge completely, and even if he gets close, her slow from Crystal Nova makes it difficult to stick to a target. Her spells are low-cooldown and cheap enough that she can consistently be a nuisance.

This dynamic forces the Primal Beast player to adapt their target priority. In early skirmishes, he often has to go on Crystal Maiden first, or he risks having his initiation on a more important hero nullified. Later on, this pressure forces him to build a Black King Bar, sometimes earlier than he'd like, just to be able to use his abilities reliably. If CM can position herself safely in the backline, she can often control his rampage long enough for her team to react and turn the fight.
