Crystal Maiden vs Sand King

How this matchup plays

Jumping a Crystal Maiden seems like a free kill for an initiator, but the opposite is often true against a Sand King. While she can't stop Epicenter with her basic spells, she completely ruins his mobility. The moment Sand King commits with a Burrowstrike, a good Crystal Maiden will Frostbite him. This root prevents him from walking to reposition or Blinking out after his stun wears off, leaving him stranded and exposed. Crystal Nova's slow also makes it hard for him to find a good angle to start a fight in the first place, forcing him into awkward initiations that are easy to punish.

This dynamic makes the game very difficult for Sand King at all stages. During the laning phase, he struggles to trade or find kills against her constant slows and roots. Once he gets a Blink Dagger, his primary job is to find pickoffs, but jumping anyone near Crystal Maiden is a death sentence. He's forced to play around her vision and positioning constantly, while she's free to set up her own team. In larger fights, if he goes on another target, he leaves her free to cast a full Freezing Field, which can be far more impactful than his own ultimate.
