Crystal Maiden vs Shadow Demon

How this matchup plays

Running the map faster is the core issue for Shadow Demon's side. Crystal Maiden's global Arcane Aura allows her whole team to use more spells, farm quicker, and apply constant pressure from the very start. This tempo advantage is compounded by her direct lockdown. Shadow Demon's primary save, Disruption, has a projectile travel time. Against a Blink-Frostbite initiation from Crystal Maiden, the root is applied instantly, well before the Disruption spell can ever reach its target to save them. It simply neutralizes one of his most important abilities.

This forces Shadow Demon into a reactive, defensive posture for most of the game. His team is busy responding to the pressure created by CM's side, which makes it difficult for him to find the space to set up his own offensive plays with Disruption and Soul Catcher. While Demonic Purge is an excellent tool for cancelling a channeled Freezing Field, the game is often defined by the gold and map control lead that Crystal Maiden's team builds long before those ultimates become the main interaction.
