Dawnbreaker vs Shadow Fiend

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map against a Dawnbreaker becomes incredibly difficult for a team relying on Shadow Fiend for damage. Dawnbreaker's ability to close distance with Celestial Hammer and stun on arrival makes her a direct threat to the fragile Shadow Fiend in any fight. She's also durable enough to withstand his initial Shadowraze combo and keep hitting. Her global presence from Solar Guardian means that even if Shadow Fiend finds a quiet lane to farm, he's never truly safe. A gank can appear from anywhere on the map, shutting down his item progression and stalling his critical timings.

The game plan for Dawnbreaker's team is to constantly force the issue. They will pressure towers and hunt for pickoffs, knowing their initiator can survive Shadow Fiend's retaliation and lock him down. Shadow Fiend is forced to play reactively, grouping with his team earlier than he'd like and rushing a Black King Bar to have a chance. Even with a BKB, he has to be careful. Dawnbreaker can often initiate from outside his vision and bait out the BKB activation early, leaving him vulnerable to her allies once its duration ends.
