Dawnbreaker vs Sand King

How this matchup plays

Playing as Sand King into Dawnbreaker feels like your main job is impossible. Your goal is to channel a big Epicenter, but she can always hold Starbreaker to stun you and cancel it. Even if you land a Burrowstrike, she’s so naturally durable that your magic damage combo won't be enough to finish her off. She's a hero who likes to be in the middle of things, meaning she's often right there to stop your initiation before it even gets going. The tools that make them a great pair when allied work against Sand King when they are opponents.

As the game progresses, this problem gets worse. Dawnbreaker can use Solar Guardian to counter-initiate anywhere on the map, turning your pick-off attempts into disasters for your own team. To win a fight, you need her to be dead or have already used her stun on someone else. Otherwise, you’re forced to play around her cooldowns, while she can freely jump on your backline and cause chaos. Dawnbreaker dictates the engagement, and Sand King is left trying to find a window that might never open.
