Dawnbreaker vs Skywrath Mage

How this matchup plays

Thinking you can burst Dawnbreaker from a distance is often a mistake. Skywrath Mage can unload his entire kit, but she is naturally durable enough to frequently survive the initial damage. Once that happens, Dawnbreaker can immediately turn the fight. She can close the distance with Celestial Hammer, and if she gets on top of Skywrath, he has no real way to escape her Starbreaker combo. His main tool is a well-timed silence from Ancient Seal to prevent her from fighting back, but if that's late or she has a way to dispel it, Skywrath is usually a free kill.

The matchup changes a lot as the game progresses. In the early laning phase, Skywrath Mage can be a real problem for Dawnbreaker, constantly poking and making it hard to farm. As Dawnbreaker gets levels and items, however, she becomes the aggressor. Her ability to initiate fights and tank through damage puts Skywrath on the back foot. More importantly, Solar Guardian means Dawnbreaker can punish Skywrath for any aggressive positioning anywhere on the map, forcing him to play much more cautiously than he'd like and limiting his impact in teamfights.
