Dawnbreaker vs Slark

How this matchup plays

Assuming Slark can pounce on Dawnbreaker and win the trade is a common trap. Slark needs to build Essence Shift stacks in a prolonged skirmish, but Dawnbreaker's kit is designed to prevent exactly that. Her Starbreaker combo ends in a stun, interrupting his escape or Dark Pact timing and holding him in place for a counter-attack. While Slark is trying to whittle a target down, Dawnbreaker can often survive the initial aggression and turn the fight completely with her own burst damage and control. She denies him the long, scrappy fight where he gains an advantage.

This pattern plays out across the entire game. Slark's mid-game gank attempts are constantly threatened by a potential Solar Guardian arrival, turning what looks like a safe kill into a deadly trap. In larger teamfights, Dawnbreaker creates a huge area of control that Slark is terrified to enter. He's forced to wait on the sidelines for her to use her spells on someone else, giving up all initiative. To succeed, Slark has to hope Dawnbreaker misplays or is focused by the rest of his team first, which is a difficult position to play from.
