Picking Death Prophet into a game with an enemy Legion Commander is a deliberate risk. Legion Commander’s core strength is Duel, which isolates a single enemy. This is a nightmare scenario for Death Prophet, who needs to survive in a teamfight for Exorcism to do its job. Once locked in a Duel, her spirits are wasted on a single target, and she lacks the physical damage or control to reliably win the manfight on her own. Legion Commander can even use Press the Attack to dispel Spirit Siphon, removing a key survival tool from Death Prophet’s kit.

This dynamic dictates the pace of the mid-game. After the laning stage, Death Prophet becomes the primary target for a Blink Dagger initiation from Legion Commander. This forces the DP to play from behind, often rushing a Ghost Scepter or Eul's Scepter instead of the damage and pushing items she needs to hit her timing. The Legion Commander's goal is simple: find and eliminate Death Prophet before a fight properly starts. In response, the DP’s team has to play protect-the-carry, sticking close and having saves ready to turn around the inevitable Duel attempts.
