Death Prophet vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

Committing Exorcism in a fight against Phoenix often feels like a trap. The main problem is Supernova, which provides a clean answer to Death Prophet's biggest teamfight contribution. After she uses her ultimate, Phoenix can use his, forcing all the ghosts to return to her while his team repositions. If the egg survives, the resulting stun can be disastrous. On top of that, Phoenix can use Icarus Dive to reposition away from a Silence or Spirit Siphon attempt, making it difficult to prevent him from getting his spells off in the first place.

This means Death Prophet can't simply run at the enemy team once she has her ultimate. Her side has to adjust its plan, either by focusing Phoenix down before he can react or by having enough right-click damage to kill the egg quickly. Phoenix, on the other hand, can play more reactively, holding Supernova as a direct counter to Exorcism. While Death Prophet can still take over a game by catching Phoenix out of position or by focusing on pushing towers when he isn't there, his presence alone is enough to disrupt her preferred teamfight pattern.
