Dragon Knight vs Nyx Assassin

How this matchup plays

Trying to stun a target as Dragon Knight only to have Dragon Tail reflected back at you is a real problem. Nyx Assassin's Spiked Carapace can completely turn around an initiation attempt, leaving you vulnerable. On top of that, Mana Burn is surprisingly effective against Dragon Knight's limited mana pool, often preventing a crucial stun or fire breath. Nyx can create a lot of pressure this way. The issue for Nyx, though, is that his burst damage from Vendetta is rarely enough to kill a durable target with high armor and regeneration from Dragon Blood. He can annoy DK, but he can't easily remove him from a fight.

The matchup often comes down to item timings. Early on, Nyx Assassin can disrupt Dragon Knight's game, but he has to be careful. Once Dragon Knight farms a Black King Bar, he can largely ignore Nyx's spells and focus on hitting buildings or key targets in teamfights. At that point, Nyx is forced to change his priorities and hunt DK's more fragile teammates instead. The game then becomes less about a direct confrontation and more about which hero can better enable their team's overall strategy before the other can take over the map.
