Dragon Knight vs Sand King

How this matchup plays

A laning phase between these two can often feel like a stalemate. Sand King uses Caustic Finale to make last-hitting a pain for a melee hero like Dragon Knight, while using Sand Storm to farm safely and dodge a Dragon Tail attempt. In return, Dragon Knight's innate tankiness and regeneration make him very difficult to actually kill, allowing him to endure the harass and get his core levels. The main difference in their kits is that Dragon Knight provides a reliable single-target stun, whereas Sand King offers area-of-effect control with Burrowstrike. This gives SK more ways to disrupt a teamfight, but makes DK a more solid front-liner.

Later on, the matchup depends on initiation targets. Sand King wants to use Blink Dagger and Epicenter to blow up squishy supports, not the durable Dragon Knight. DK is often tanky enough to survive the full combo, making him a poor focus target. A fight can swing if Dragon Knight can stun Sand King during the Epicenter cast, but it requires precise timing. If Sand King is forced to use his spells on DK, his impact is minimized. But if he can find a better target, he can easily win the fight before Dragon Knight can react.
