Earthshaker vs Legion Commander

How this matchup plays

Thinking that Fissure is a guaranteed counter to Duel often leads to trouble. While Earthshaker can interrupt Legion Commander’s signature spell from a distance, this only works for the first part of the game. Once Legion gets a Black King Bar, she can activate it before dueling and become immune to Fissure's stun. This completely removes Earthshaker's main tool for saving an ally. Echo Slam can still punish a Duel that happens near other units, but a good Legion player will actively hunt for isolated targets, minimizing the risk of a big ultimate turning the fight.

The matchup comes down to item timings. Early on, Earthshaker’s stuns make him a constant threat that can foil Legion Commander's attempts to gank and snowball. He can easily turn a poorly chosen Duel into a disaster for her team. However, the game shifts once Legion secures her key items. She can start blinking past the frontline Earthshaker to eliminate a support, and he has no way to stop the Duel from completing. His role then changes from prevention to punishment, trying to land a game-winning Echo Slam on the enemy team as they follow up on the Duel.
