Earthshaker vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

Forcing Earthshaker to play reactively can give Phoenix a small advantage. Spells like Fire Spirits and Sun Ray let Phoenix control the lane from a safe distance, harassing and clearing waves without getting into Fissure range. This makes it difficult for Earthshaker to find a good opening. When Phoenix does use Supernova, Shaker usually can't destroy the egg on his own; he lacks the sustained attack speed, and a poorly placed Fissure can even block his own allies from reaching it.

Throughout the game, this means Phoenix can often pressure lanes more freely, knowing his escape and ultimate make him a tough kill. Earthshaker is always looking for a big initiation, but Phoenix can Icarus Dive to dodge a setup or use Supernova to turn a bad fight around. To win the engagement, Earthshaker's team needs to be coordinated, either bursting Phoenix down before he can react or immediately focusing their attacks on the egg together. It puts the burden of execution on the Earthshaker's side.
