Earthshaker vs Silencer

How this matchup plays

Finding a clean initiation is much harder for Earthshaker when a Silencer is on the other team. Earthshaker's strength comes from chaining his spells together, but that's exactly what Silencer punishes. Getting hit by Arcane Curse before a combo means Earthshaker takes a lot of damage himself simply for casting Fissure and Enchant Totem in sequence. A well-timed Last Word can also completely stop that sequence from starting, turning a potential kill into a bad trade. This forces Earthshaker to second-guess his own engages, making him less of an immediate threat.

The dynamic really revolves around Global Silence. An Earthshaker's entire game plan can be about landing that one perfect Blink-Echo Slam, but Silencer can press one button from anywhere on the map to stop it. This buys his team critical time to scatter or turn and kill the exposed Earthshaker. The pressure to wait out the global or get a Black King Bar can slow down Earthshaker's key timings, giving Silencer's team more map control. The matchup isn't one-sided, though, as a quick initiation can still catch Silencer before he can react.
