Faceless Void vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

Slowing down a Faceless Void is one of the best ways to deal with him, and Phoenix is built for it. The constant attack speed slow from Fire Spirits makes it incredibly hard for Void to deal damage, both in lane and during his Chronosphere. A Void who can't attack quickly isn't getting Time Lock stuns and isn't a threat. The flip side is that Faceless Void can perfectly dispel the Fire Spirit debuff with Time Walk, giving him a clean window to fight. This trade of cooldowns is the core of the matchup.

Teamfights become a duel of ultimates. If Void catches Phoenix in a Chronosphere, Phoenix is a free kill with no chance to use Supernova or escape. If Phoenix can avoid getting caught, he can completely swing the fight. He can drop his own ultimate outside the Chronosphere, forcing Void's team to split their attention, or simply use his other spells from a safe distance to heal allies and slow Void himself. It all comes down to positioning and who gets to press their buttons first.
