Grimstroke vs Slardar

How this matchup plays

Catching a charging Slardar is a classic test of timing. He wants to run at your team with Guardian Sprint and Blink Dagger to land a Slithereen Crush, but Grimstroke has tools to make that difficult. A well-placed Stroke of Fate can slow him down, and a pre-cast Ink Swell can stun him the moment he arrives, ruining his initiation. On the other hand, Grimstroke is a fragile hero. If Slardar gets the jump on him without being stopped, he dies very quickly. Soulbind can punish Slardar if he jumps alongside a core, but he often initiates alone, making the ultimate less reliable against him specifically.

The outcome of this matchup often comes down to vision and positioning. Slardar’s goal is to get his Blink Dagger and start hunting isolated heroes, with Grimstroke being a prime target. In response, Grimstroke needs good wards from his team and often a defensive item like a Force Staff to create space after the initial stun. If Slardar can find Grimstroke out of position and burst him before his team can react, he wins the exchange. If Grimstroke sees the initiation coming, he can kite and control Slardar long enough for his own team to collapse on the aggressor.
