Keeper of the Light vs Marci

How this matchup plays

Trying to run at a Keeper of the Light seems like a good plan for a brawler, but it's often a trap. Marci wants to get close to do her damage, but KotL’s kit is designed to prevent exactly that. Blinding Light is the main problem, as the knockback and miss chance can completely ruin an initiation or nullify a lot of the damage from her Unleash ultimate. In larger teamfights, Will-O-Wisp creates a huge area that a melee hero like Marci simply cannot enter without being repeatedly stunned. These tools make it very difficult for her to connect with her targets and stay on them.

This dynamic forces Marci to play a patient game. Keeper of the Light can control the map by safely pushing out lanes with Illuminate, limiting the space Marci has to find pick-offs. The matchup often hinges on whether Marci can get a clean jump on KotL before he can react, usually with help from an ally's stun. Her main path to success is buying a Black King Bar to ignore his control spells. Until she has that item, however, she's often forced to fight on KotL’s terms, constantly being pushed away and kited.
