Keeper of the Light vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Trying to lock down a target as Viper feels difficult when a Keeper of the Light is on the other team. Viper wants to stay on top of enemies, applying his corrosive slows and poisons, but KotL's whole kit works against that. Blinding Light is a direct answer, knocking Viper back and making his attacks miss, giving his target a window to escape. Even in the lane, Illuminate can be used from a safe distance to shove the wave. This forces Viper to deal with creeps under his tower and relieves pressure from KotL's core, preventing Viper from playing his preferred front-foot, bullying style.

Throughout the game, this means Viper often struggles to find and stick to his kill targets. An ally slowed by Viper Strike can sometimes be saved by a well-timed knockback or even a Recall. Keeper of the Light is very fragile, so a successful jump from Viper usually results in a quick kill. The challenge for the Viper player is creating that opportunity. A well-positioned KotL can control entire teamfights from the backline, making it hard for the slow, lumbering Viper to ever get close to the heroes he wants to kill, or to KotL himself.
