Kez vs Shadow Fiend

How this matchup plays

Putting these two heroes into the same game, on either side, tends to create problems for the drafter. The issue stems from how Shadow Fiend's damage profile negates what Kez is built to do. Kez wants a duel, where he can use his parry to counter a specific attack or spell. Shadow Fiend’s damage comes from overlapping Shadowrazes, forcing Kez to guess which one to block while still getting hit by the others. This area-of-effect pressure undermines the one-on-one strength Kez relies on, making it hard for him to find a favorable engagement.

This dynamic shapes the entire game. Shadow Fiend can secure farm and control the lane from a distance, while Kez has to be much more careful about his positioning. Later on, for Kez to reach Shadow Fiend in a teamfight, he has to expose himself to the whole enemy team and a potential Requiem of Souls. Kez's goal is to get a spell immunity item to close the gap safely. Shadow Fiend simply wants to kite and unload his spells before Kez can get on top of him, a situation that gives SF a consistent, if slight, advantage in most scenarios.
