Kunkka vs Nyx Assassin

How this matchup plays

Trying to land a big Tidebringer cleave on a priority target is a signature Kunkka move, but it becomes a huge risk against a Nyx Assassin. Most of Kunkka’s damage arrives in a predictable burst, whether it’s from his cleave or his Torrent and Ghostship combo. This makes it straightforward for Nyx to time Spiked Carapace, turning Kunkka’s own damage back on him as a stun. The threat of this reversal can force Kunkka to play hesitantly. On top of that, consistent Mana Burn can leave Kunkka without enough resources for his full X-Marks-the-Spot setup when a fight breaks out.

Throughout the game, Kunkka has to be mindful of where Nyx is. A Kunkka farming a side lane is a prime target for a gank from Vendetta. In larger teamfights, the matchup becomes a mind game. Kunkka might have to intentionally bait out the Spiked Carapace before committing his spells, or choose a different hero to initiate on. Nyx isn't invincible and can be blown up if caught without his defensive tool, so Kunkka can still find openings. The pressure is mostly on Kunkka to outplay the reflection, which gives Nyx a slight edge.
