Thinking Kunkka's area-of-effect spells are a clean answer to an invisible hero often leads to trouble. Riki can use Tricks of the Trade to become untargetable, letting him dodge the impact of both Torrent and Ghostship. If Riki is the one starting the fight, his Smoke Screen leaves Kunkka silenced and unable to reliably land Tidebringer attacks. He has the specific defensive tools to sidestep the core of Kunkka's teamfight contribution, making a planned combo whiff completely on him.

This forces the matchup to revolve around vision and initiation. A Kunkka caught by surprise is an easy target for Riki, who can burst him down inside the silence. With good detection from Sentry Wards or Dust, however, Kunkka's X Marks the Spot becomes the deciding spell. Catching Riki with it before he can get close guarantees a kill.
