Marci vs Shadow Fiend

How this matchup plays

Choosing one of these heroes into the other often comes down to who can dictate the terms of the fight. Marci is built to punish immobile targets, using Rebound to close the distance and Dispose to lock a hero down for her team. This is theoretically a death sentence for a fragile hero like Shadow Fiend. However, Shadow Fiend has common item builds that directly answer this threat. A Eul's Scepter can dodge her stun, and a Black King Bar makes her entire initiation useless. A close-range Requiem of Souls can also completely turn a gank around if Marci dives in without support.

Early rotations from Marci can be devastating for Shadow Fiend, who has no innate escape and wants to farm his lane. A few successful ganks can cripple his game. As things progress, the matchup becomes a duel of item timings. If Shadow Fiend secures his Black King Bar, he has a window to play aggressively and ignore Marci's control. Marci, on the other hand, waits for that BKB to be on cooldown or tries to find a pickoff from the fog before he can activate it. The advantage swings back and forth based on who has the right tool ready for the fight.
