Muerta vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Picking one of these heroes into the other feels like a gamble on who can execute their game plan first. Muerta’s ultimate, Pierce the Veil, makes her immune to physical damage but also ethereal, causing her to take amplified magic damage. This creates a huge window of vulnerability against Viper, whose entire kit is based on magic damage over time. His Poison Attack, Nethertoxin, and Viper Strike all become significantly more potent against an ethereal target. Nethertoxin also reduces her magic resistance and applies a break, crippling her damage output if she's relying on Gunslinger procs.

The fight is a race to see who bursts whom. While Muerta is vulnerable in her ultimate, she also outputs tremendous magic damage herself. Viper’s passive magic resistance from Corrosive Skin helps, but it may not be enough to survive her focused fire if he’s caught out of position. The outcome often hinges on initiation and key items. If Viper can land his slows and stay on top of Muerta, he can usually grind her down. If Muerta can land a Dead Shot fear and unload her damage before Viper can properly respond, she wins the duel. Neither hero has a decisive, built-in advantage.
