Necrophos vs Shadow Fiend

How this matchup plays

Trying to win the lane against Necrophos as a squishy hero is a slow, painful process. Heartstopper Aura constantly chips away at Shadow Fiend's health, forcing him to use up his regeneration. Necrophos can then sustain through any return harass from Shadowraze with his own Death Pulse. While Ghost Shroud slows Shadow Fiend's right-clicks, it's a risky move; the increased magic damage taken makes Necrophos extremely vulnerable to a full combo of Razes. This back-and-forth often favors the healer, but a mistake can be fatal.

This lane pressure can make it hard for Shadow Fiend to hit his timings. Necrophos aims to keep him low enough for a Reaper's Scythe kill, preventing him from snowballing. Shadow Fiend’s goal is to survive this phase and get a Black King Bar. Once he has that item, he can largely ignore Necrophos in fights and focus on bursting down supports. The matchup often comes down to whether Necrophos can successfully suppress SF's farm early on, or if Shadow Fiend can get the items he needs to fight on his own terms.
