Necrophos vs Nyx Assassin

How this matchup plays

Thinking of Nyx Assassin as a simple counter to a squishy core can be a mistake here. While his initial burst and Mana Burn are definitely threatening, Necrophos has tools to survive the attempt. A well-timed Ghost Shroud can negate the physical damage from a gank and allow Necrophos to begin healing through it. The real duel comes down to a test of nerves centered on two abilities: Reaper's Scythe and Spiked Carapace. If Necrophos tries to execute a Nyx who anticipates it, Spiked Carapace will reflect the stun and damage back, often killing the Necrophos instead.

This dynamic means Nyx Assassin has an edge in the early laning and roaming stages, where he can find Necrophos alone. As the game goes on, however, Necrophos gets tankier and starts to group with his team. It becomes much harder for Nyx to find a solo kill. The matchup shifts from a one-on-one duel to a teamfight question: can Nyx find an angle to stun or break an item before Necrophos can sustain his team through the fight?
