Necrophos vs Ogre Magi

How this matchup plays

Standing in the middle of a fight is where Ogre Magi wants to be, but it’s a dangerous place against Necrophos. The constant pressure from Heartstopper Aura wears down Ogre's large health pool, turning his main strength into a ticking clock. While Ogre is great at surviving burst from other heroes, Necrophos specializes in sustained damage that is hard to itemize against early. This culminates in Reaper’s Scythe, which punishes a hero for being tough but low on life—the exact state Ogre often finds himself in after taking a few spells for his team.

This dynamic forces the Ogre Magi player to be less reckless throughout the game. He can't soak damage as freely and must respect the kill threshold of Necrophos's ultimate. For Necrophos, the plan is straightforward: keep the aura on Ogre and use Death Pulse to sustain through any return harass. Ogre’s best response is to coordinate a quick kill with his allies, using Bloodlust to burst Necrophos down before he can establish this slow, grinding advantage. It's a slight lean because Ogre has tools, but Necrophos’s kit directly undermines his job.
