Necrophos vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

Teamfights often hinge on the timing of Supernova. Phoenix’s Fire Spirits will slow your team’s attack speed, making it difficult to kill the egg in time. While Necrophos can use Reaper’s Scythe on the egg itself, it’s often a waste of a powerful cooldown. A better play for Necrophos can be to use Ghost Shroud to ignore physical damage from heroes trying to protect the egg, but this makes him extremely vulnerable to magic damage, including the Supernova's own burn. It creates a standoff where both heroes have tools to answer the other’s biggest spell, but using them comes with significant risk.

This tension defines the matchup at all stages. Phoenix has high mobility with Icarus Dive, allowing him to easily stay out of Heartstopper Aura’s range and kite the much slower Necrophos. However, Necrophos’s constant sustain from Death Pulse makes him difficult for Phoenix to wear down with damage-over-time spells. The fight usually comes down to which hero can bait out a key cooldown first or catch the other out of position. Neither hero can confidently force a fight on their own terms, leading to a very balanced contest.
