Shadow Fiend vs Pudge

How this matchup plays

Farming souls against an enemy Pudge feels like walking on a tightrope. Shadow Fiend is a fragile hero with no natural escape, making him a prime target for a Meat Hook. Getting caught usually means death, as Pudge can easily follow up with Rot and Dismember to hold SF in place for his team to finish off. This fundamental threat exists at all stages of the game, forcing the Shadow Fiend player to have exceptional map awareness and positioning just to stay alive and build his damage.

The matchup often comes down to a race for key items and timings. Pudge aims to disrupt Shadow Fiend's progress by roaming for kills before SF can get tanky. In response, Shadow Fiend is often pressured into buying a Black King Bar earlier than he'd like. Once SF has BKB, he can more safely position himself to land a devastating Requiem of Souls in teamfights. Pudge's job then shifts to trying to catch him out of position before he can activate it, or to simply disengage and wait for the BKB to expire.
