Shadow Fiend vs Sven

How this matchup plays

Competing for jungle farm is a core part of this matchup. Both Sven and Shadow Fiend use their abilities to clear stacks very quickly, meaning they often want to occupy the same parts of the map. Sven is usually more durable while doing this, using Warcry to survive ganks that would kill the more fragile Shadow Fiend. When they finally fight, Sven has a direct initiation with Storm Hammer, especially with a Blink Dagger. This is a huge problem for a hero like Shadow Fiend who has no escape and relies on careful positioning to deal damage.

Sven will typically aim for a BKB timing to begin hunting for kills. Once God's Strength is active, he can often burst Shadow Fiend down during a single stun. This puts the pressure on Shadow Fiend to play cautiously with good vision and team support. A big Requiem of Souls can still swing a fight, but it's hard to land on a BKB'd Sven. More often than not, Sven is the one forcing the action, leaving Shadow Fiend to play from a reactive position.
