Night Stalker vs Ogre Magi

How this matchup plays

Dealing with Night Stalker's aggression often feels like Ogre Magi's job. While Crippling Fear is great for shutting down most heroes, Ogre is durable enough to often survive the silence and initial burst. Once it ends, Ogre can immediately counter with Fireblast to stun Night Stalker and disrupt his charge. This interaction prevents Night Stalker from easily running over Ogre or his allies. The constant Ignite slow also makes it difficult for Night Stalker to maintain his high movement speed advantage during ganks, allowing targets to create distance.

This matchup frequently comes down to positioning and item timings. During the first night, a successful Night Stalker will often hunt Ogre Magi's squishier teammates, avoiding a direct confrontation. Ogre’s goal is to stick with his team and be ready to peel with his stuns. Once Night Stalker gets a Black King Bar, he can ignore Ogre's spells and freely dive the back lines. Until then, however, jumping near an Ogre Magi is a gamble, as a well-timed Multicast can lock him down long enough for the team to turn the kill around.
