Nyx Assassin vs Wraith King

How this matchup plays

Picking an assassin into Wraith King is a tough choice for any team. Nyx Assassin relies on his Vendetta and Impale combo to isolate and eliminate a single target quickly. The problem is Wraith King’s Reincarnation completely undermines this plan. Nyx will burn all his spells and long cooldowns to secure the first kill, only for Wraith King to stand right back up. Worse, Mana Burn, a core part of Nyx’s damage against many heroes, is almost completely ineffective against a low-intelligence Strength carry.

This dynamic means gank attempts on Wraith King often backfire. A lone Nyx might find what looks like an easy kill, but after popping Reincarnation, he’s left with no spells and nowhere to run while Wraith King and his team close in. To succeed, Nyx Assassin has to pivot from being the killer to being the setup, using his stuns to hold WK in place for allies to burn through both of his lives. Wraith King can play with confidence, farming more boldly than other carries knowing the enemy's main initiator can't threaten him alone.
