Nyx Assassin vs Slark

How this matchup plays

Picking Nyx Assassin purely to counter a Slark often doesn't play out as expected. The theory is that Spiked Carapace will punish Pounce, but a practiced Slark player anticipates this. He can use Dark Pact to immediately purge the stun, effectively negating Nyx's primary defensive tool. The interaction then becomes a mind game. Nyx wants to land his stun and Mana Burn to cripple Slark before he can get going, but Slark's dispel and the invisibility from Shadow Dance give him powerful tools to survive the initial burst and turn the fight.

This matchup is a constant battle for vision and information. In the early game, Nyx can make laning difficult for Slark, delaying his core timings with ganks from Vendetta. As the game progresses, however, the tables can turn. A farmed Slark is much harder to kill and can often survive Nyx’s full combo, healing up and re-engaging. Success for Nyx Assassin comes from catching Slark when his defensive spells are on cooldown. Slark, in turn, needs to bait out Spiked Carapace before he fully commits to a kill attempt.
